About

One person, twenty years, a handle from 2002.

The page every serious-looking site has, written honestly. If you’re deciding whether to hire me, this is probably more useful than the home page.

§ 01 · The handle

cybind started as a BBS handle — cyber + mind — on a school computer in Ukraine around 2002. It stuck. Twenty-something years later it’s the name on a Portuguese company, a short list of shipped products, and whatever I ship next. Same person, same handle, a lot more mileage.

§ 02 · The background

CS degree in Ukraine, focused on intelligent decision-making systems — neural networks, optimization, adaptive control. At the time it felt mostly academic; now it’s most of what I do for a living.

Twenty years at Jaybird Group as principal engineer: lead on Locast (3M viewers across 31 US cities), WFMZ-TV’s smart-TV apps (nine live channels, eight platforms), Ken’s Foods’ brand portfolio (five brands in one monorepo), and a long list of smaller client builds. Then went independent under Cybind.

§ 03 · The company

CYBER MIND Unipessoal LDA — incorporated in Portugal in 2023, registered in Lisbon, VAT-registered across the EU. Cybind is the trading name; the legal entity is what ends up on your invoice, your SOW, and your vendor onboarding forms.

One person inside. That’s by design. If a job needs more than one senior principal, I partner; I don’t grow headcount.

§ 04 · Working with one person

Cybind is deliberately one person. That’s an advantage for speed and senior-level judgement, and a risk for continuity. Here’s how the risk is managed in practice.

  • Code and credentials stay with you, not with me. Every engagement ships into your repos, your cloud account, your secret store. Nothing locked in my tools.
  • Documentation is a deliverable, not a favour. Architecture notes, runbooks, and decision records are written during the engagement — not at the end. If I disappear tomorrow, the next engineer has what they need.
  • Scheduled unavailability is flagged weeks ahead. Holidays, conferences, family. Unscheduled (illness) triggers a same-day notice and a concrete backfill plan.
  • For production-critical work, Cybind partners with a shortlist of senior engineers I trust. Named in the SOW, available for on-call or backfill. You’re not left looking for replacements in a crisis.

The honest summary: a solo senior is faster, closer to the metal, and unmistakably accountable. It’s not zero-risk. Cybind’s job is to make the risk visible and managed, not to pretend it isn’t there.

§ 05 · The other stuff

Ukrainian, long-term expat in Portugal. Drummer in a weekend band — mostly for my own sanity, occasionally for paying crowds. Caffeine-positive, meeting-negative. Reads more than the internet would suggest.

None of that shows up in your project, but you asked.
